Yeah But Do these Reggae Superstars Mean It?

I just came across this bit of news: Another Reggae Superstar Comes Out Against Anti-Gay Lyrics.
The article is refering to Buju Banton a reggae superstar who’s 90’s Boom Bye Bye, (which is still a popular song that he sings at concerts) encourages people to shoot gay men in the head, pour acid on their bodies and burn them alive.
Apparently, Banton along with Beenie Man, Sizzla and Capleton have signed a document called the Reggae Compassionate Act (RCA) statement. All four of them have in the past released anti-gay hate songs inciting the murder of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
So I say: So what? Sounds like they needed to be seen doing something positive as they’ve been getting heat for their attitudes and facing boycotts and cancelled concerts.
They’ll probably continue to sing these songs as they’re popular with many of their fans. And I highly doubt that they actually mean it…And what’s going to happen when they don’t change? Nothing.
Update: August 3rd: Oh yes, I keep on meaning to post this item I found a couple of days ago… Gay activist insists Beenie Man, colleagues signed deal denouncing violent anti-gay lyrics — Beenie Man says he didn’t.
