Naked Boys Singing (the movie)Over the weekend I watched the movie version of a musical that I’ll probably never get the chance to see in person; Naked Boys Singing.

I see naked guys, day in and day out, but naked guys singing; well I’ve never seen that before. So naturally I had to get a copy of the DVD and see this for myself.

The show features Andrew Blake Ames, Jason Currie, Jaymes Hodges, Joseph Keane, Anthony Manough, Ethan Le Phong, Joe Souza, Kevin Stea, Salvatore Vassallo and Vincent Zamora and starts off with the rousing number, ‘Gratuitous Nudity’.

Actually, that was one thing that I wondered about before I watched this movie. I wondered whether we were going to be teased throughout the entire film with coy and creative blocking of the beautiful boy’s tackle and butts; or even annoying blur and pixelation filters. Although, I suppose it would have been interesting if they had done creative blocking to hide the cast’s assets; this wasn’t the case. They proudly showed it all off.

Personally, my most favorite number in the entire show was Kevin Stea’s performance of ‘The Naked Maid’. Next up would have to be the cute number ‘Perky Little Porn Star’, sung by that cute number, Joseph Keane. Jason Currie’s performance in ‘The Entertainer’ and ‘Robert Mitchum’ was also really good. Oh and I mustn’t forget the fabulously funny song ‘Members Only’; especially the part when Salvatore Vassallo conducts the chorus… Hang on, ‘Jack’s Song’, (also known as, ‘I Beat My Meat’) was funny too.

If there’s anything that I really didn’t like it would have to be that the money men behind this film didn’t put up enough money. It could have been so much better if a little more time (which = money) had been taken and if a little more money had been spent on production design.

There’s one more thing that kind of disappointed me about this film but it’s a disappointment that I find with the vast majority of ‘gay films’ and that is the fact that there isn’t enough openly gay actors out there willing to proudly strut their stuff.

If those two elements had been in this film, then it would have been total and fabulous bliss for me. Overall though, I did enjoy watching ‘Naked Boys Singing’ and think that it provides a good evening of smiles, laughs and entertainment.
