Shocking Royal News! A mutilated body found at an abbey has been identified as probably being that of Sir Hugh Despenser the Younger.
Despenser was reputed to be one of the most reviled medieval courtiers AND he was also reputed to be the gay lover of King, Edward II.
In 1326, following Edward’s fall, Despenser was publicly hanged, drawn and quartered for treason and probably had his hands cut off as he had also been found guilty of theft.
Oddly enough, the remains, were actually found in the 1970s on Despenser’s brother-in-law’s estate at Hulton Abbey. The article doesn’t mention why this news is being revealed now. Perhaps, the researchers just got around to figuring out the mystery?…
