Gay Politics in Nepal

Over the past couple of years there’s been some interesting stories coming out of Nepal about gay rights. Things just got a little more interesting…
Although homosexuality is effectively illegal in Nepal, five gay candidates are standing for public election on April 10 to become members of a new constituent assembly. The election will be Nepal’s first national vote since 1999.
Already this is a first, but it could become another first if any of the candidates actually get in. At least one of the candidates figures that he has a very good chance of winning.
