Ever since I posted about the Canadian campaign for the International Day Against Homophobia, I’ve been looking for information from international sources about international events and actions. Here’s what I’ve managed to come up with thus far:
Background Info:
International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) is held on May 17th and is an opportunity for people to get together and reach out to one another, educate and lobby against homophobia.
On May 17, 1990, the General Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO) removed homosexuality from their list of mental disorders. Hence the reason for marking that date as the International Day Against Homophobia.
The fight for the recognition of equal rights for lesbian gay, bisexual and transgender people continues throughout the world today though. And of course, the fight against homophobia. One would think that in this day and age that that fight was over and won — but of course it isn’t. A quick look through the headlines of this news site will tell you that.
