Back in August of 1993, Norway became the second country to allow gays and lesbians to have registered partnerships. It was a first step, which gave them rights almost equal to those of married couples.

Yesterday, (Tuesday) Norway’s upper house of parliament voted in favor of a gender-neutral marriage law that gives gays and lesbians the same rights as heterosexuals to marry, adopt and undergo artificial insemination. This new equality law takes effect, January 1st, 2009.
