Hot Summer ‘Reading’!
Filed Under Arts, Books & Mags, Shopping
Its summertime and for some reason, for some people it seems to be tradition to do something new; like reading…
Summertime is also the time for taking off to the cabin or cottage and perhaps that’s one of the reasons why people think of summer reading fare. Regardless of your reason for reading this summer, I’ve got a short and sweet list of gay related books to help heat up your summertime ‘reading’.
The Hot ‘Summer Reading’ List:
1. The Big Penis Book by Dian Hanson.
When it comes to pleasure, size doesn’t matter; as we all know its quality, not quantity that counts. But let’s admit it: a big penis is undeniably compelling. Big shoulders, big lapels, and big hair may come and go, but the big penis never goes out of fashion. With those possessing more than 8 inches (20 cm) making up less than 2% of the world’s population, this rare accessory will always fascinate.
In The Big Penis Book we explore the centuries-old fascination with the large phallus, a fascination common to men and women alike. This hefty book is profusely illustrated with over 400 historic photos of spectacular male endowments, including rare photos of the legendary John Holmes. The majority of the photographs are from the 1970s, when the sexual revolution first freed photographers to depict the male entirely nude.
Photographers include Bob Mizer of Athletic Model Guild, David Hurles of Old Reliable, Colt, Falcon, Sierra Domino, Third World, and Champion Studios, with each of these iconic photographers interviewed or profiled, along with information about each of their models. And if this isn’t enough, the book closes with a special surprise comparable to the Guinness Book of Records’ Norma Stitz featured in The Big Book of Breasts! Can you guess what body part Dian is dissecting next?
2. Backstage Pass: Broadway Bares by Jerry Mitchell (Author), Rex Bonomelli (Contributor), Michael Graziano
This is your ticket behind the scenes to see Broadway’s sexiest performers displaying some of their greatest assets. Gorgeous stage idols from the biggest shows strut their stuff as you’ve never seen them before. Its burlesque naughtiness lit up by the razzle-dazzle of the Great White Way. They tease, they titillate, they tantalize. And boy, do they deliver the goods. By the end of each number they’re wearing little more than a smile. But at the end of the show comes the real payoff; hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, the theatre community’s unique fundraising and grant making organization.
Backstage Pass peeks behind the curtain at the famous event called Broadway Bares– conceived by Tony Award® — winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell–which sets New York City ablaze each summer. The hottest dancers in show business come together for this one-night-only sold-out “Strip-A-Thon”–a fundraising, eye-popping spectacle the likes of which Gypsy Rose Lee could never have dreamed. Now for the first time this luxurious keepsake album brings together all the sizzling posters, scintillating backstage shots, and scorching on-stage photographs from the past seventeen years of Broadway Bares. Sit back and enjoy the show.
3. Chulo by Joan Crisol (Photographer)
Joan Crisol’s first photography collection fascinates with its coarse-grained aesthetic, complex coloring and sensual erotic staging - these are simply stirringly beautiful photographs. The dynamic that develops when browsing through the book is difficult to escape. Crisol’s men are masculine, striking, and although they hardly ever bear all you can still detect the fire burning just below the surface on every page. This large-format volume of 120 pages presents the impressive oeuvre of one of Spain’s most promising talents.
Spanish fashion photographer Joan Crisol has been working for internationally renowned magazines for years, like ROLLING STONE, ZERO and PLAYBOY. He was introduced to the gay audience with his contributions to the photographic anthology VISIONS published in 2006.
4. Gods of Sport by Pedro Virgil (Photographer)
Pedro Virgil’s styled portraits of athlete’s bodies celebrate testosterone-laden masculinity. With elegant poses and vivid coloring Virgil manages to create tension as well as including a tongue-in-cheek pathos that will bring a smile to your face. Muscular machos that will set your fantasies ablaze and subtle gay scenes mix together and unquestionably leave a lasting impression.
Australian photographer Pedro Virgil has been making waves with his work for years in magazines like BENT and DNA. He has also photographed for ROLEX, DIESEL and others. He puts a lot of work into all his images, resulting in professional high-gloss works of art of the superlative! These photos were taken for a calendar being sold to support of the McGraith Foundation.
5. Trunks: The Men of Hot House by Hot House (Photographer)
The men of Hot House are in the mood for trunks - immense!
Honestly speaking, it was probably a good thing that the men in the mail-order catalogues weren’t completely naked as we furiously paged through them, leaving the rest to our young overactive imaginations. And clearly the men in this HOT HOUSE book have a lot more to offer than those boring catalogue underwear models. As we’ve come to expect these hot hunks are both fresh and delicious - and the men of HOT HOUSE once again prove that they are among the biggest and best in the gay porn business. Colourful backdrops, worked-out male bodies in exciting solo portraits - and these are some of the most delicious (bathing suit) fillings the world has ever seen! A dream!
After spending years as Falcon Studio’s vice president and directing almost 50 gay porn flicks for them, Steven Scarborough left in 1993 and founded his own production company - HOT HOUSE ENTERTAINMENT. TRUNKS is the second book of photography from HOT HOUSE published by Bruno Gmünder Publishing.
