Here’s a story that’s starting to make the rounds: Censorship at Manchester Pride.

The basic controversy: Manchester Pride’s festival director attempted to confiscate “Pride Not Profit” signs at the start of city’s annual gay pride parade from a group called Queer Youth. Queer Youth shot video of the incident and posted it to Youtube. (Also available a little further on down….)

Personally, I’m of the opinion that pride parades are supposed to be about ‘protest’ in addition to ‘celebration’. Moreover, I believe that the event which was being protested and that required the entry fee should have been made a ‘by donation’ type of deal. People who could ante up would probably do so gladly and those who couldn’t would still be able to enjoy the rest of the festivities. Problem solved and money still coming in.
