It’s kind of amazing the amount of wonderful gay movies I’m finding at my local video rental store. My latest find is a romantic comedy called Wedding Wars.

Wedding Wars on DVDWedding Wars was an A&E Network original movie a couple of years back and as I don’t subscribe to A&E I missed out on it. Even so, somehow this movie slipped through my radar. However, now that I’ve seen it, I’m going to order it for my growing collection of gay themed movies as I really enjoyed it. In fact, I watched this movie with my partner and we both loved it.

According to the product description: “A media flurry ensues when a gay man protests against a governor who is vehemently opposed to gay marriage in the comedy feature Wedding Wars. The twist in the tale is that the protestor’s brother is set on marrying the governor’s daughter.”

The description is somewhat accurate but Wedding Wars is even juicer than that. For starters; Shel, (John Stamos) the gay man in question who is protesting, is not just the brother of Ben (Eric Dane) the guy who’s about to marry Governor Welling’s daughter, (Bonnie Somerville) but he’s their wedding planner as well. And in my opinion the real ‘twist’ to this tale is that Ben who is going to get married also happens to be the governor’s (James Brolin) campaign manager and the one who wrote the governor’s speech against gay marriage and how he supports an amendment against it.

I found Wedding Wars to be a brilliantly funny film that explores a serious subject that’s still relevant today in many places.
