Election Day in America & Prop 8

Filed Under Gay Marriage, Politics | November 4th, 2008

Tuesday November 4, 2008, the day that alot of people are keeping a watch on: the United States presidential election.

I kind of would have liked to have provided more election coverage this year but I was a little busy with getting married and moving to another province. Hence the reason why I didn’t post much about the Canadian election, (I was packing a trailer on the day that the ballots were being counted) and haven’t posted about the American election or the Proposition 8 ballot in California.

Judging by my email inbox when I was finally able to get online the other day, it would appear that things have heated up in the last few weeks of the American election campaign trail. And indeed heated up in regards to the California ballot measure, Proposition 8.

Will America make history and vote in its first black president? Over the past year I’ve kind of flip-flopped in my thoughts on whether or not America will do so. The same went for whether or not we’d be seeing America’s first woman president. It’s been a strange and interesting political race.

Will Californians really vote to overturn the rights granted by the recent California court in regards to same sex marriage? Time will tell I guess — soon.

Over the past few days a thought keeps popping into my head. What would Molly Ivins say? God/dess rest her soul. No doubt she’d have something witty and down to earth to say about this political circus…

Back to Prop 8: The AP has the summary of what it’s all about and what’s at stake: Voters Weigh in on Amendment to Ban Gay Marriage

If you’re one of my American readers — get out and vote today.
